Introduction

Blood Sugar is metabolized by the body in very complex ways. In an ideal state, the body uses the sugars derived from food only as required for metabolism, ensuring there is sufficient glucose in the blood at all times for our energy requirements, but that is it not present in excess. The excess sugar from our food is stored in fat for use later when we don’t have sufficient foods available for our immediate energy requirements.

Syndrome x, also known as insulin resistance syndrome, or metabolic syndrome, affects Over 150 million people in the world, and prevalence increases with age. Syndrome x refers to conditions brought about by excessive refined carbohydrate diets.

 At the cell level this means that the insulin receptors that allow the transport of blood sugar into the cell are blocked from accepting insulin and so the blood sugar can’t get through, leading to both high blood glucose and high insulin levels as the pancreas tries to overcome this resistance by producing extra insulin.

Having syndrome x increases one’s odds of developing diabetes, cancer or heart disease. The easiest way to diagnose insulin resistance is with a glucose tolerance test.

To understand how NG4L Diabetes and Syndrome X works in maintaining normal blood sugar, it is important to look at the steps the body goes through in metabolizing blood sugar:

  • Food is digested in the stomach and intestines. Starches and Carbohydrates, which are long-chain sugar molecules, are broken down into simpler sugars which can be absorbed into the blood stream. This is where the majority of our dietary sugars come from. Also, lesser amounts are released from the fats we eat, also broken down into simpler sugars and absorbed into the bloodstream.

  • In response to this increase in blood sugar following a meal, the body produces a couple of enzymes, primarily Insulin and Hepatic Glucokinase, which act as triggers to allow the blood sugar to enter into the cells where it can be used for energy. These enzymes, particularly Insulin, fit receptors on the surface of the cells, and act to open a passage into the cell to allow the entry of the sugar. Like a key opening a locked door into the cell, allowing the entry of the sugars for use in the cell.
  • Any sugar in excess of what is needed at the time is converted by other enzymes into compounds which are stored in fat in the body. Later, when there are no dietary sources of sugar for the body to utilize, these fat stores release the sugars back into the blood stream for use as needed.

Unfortunately, in Metabolic Syndrome, there are several points where this normal blood sugar mechanism goes wrong. In Type Two Diabetes and in Metabolic Syndrome (also known as Syndrome X), usually several of the mechanism fail. This is where NG4L Diabetes and Syndrome X comes in.   • The first way NG4L Diabetes and Syndrome X helps is by altering the way the body digests the foods we eat. As pointed out earlier, most of our blood sugar comes from the starches and carbohydrates we eat. These are digested in the intestines by enzymes called alphaglucosidases. (Alpha-glucoside is the technical term for starches. Alpha-glucoside-ases are the enzymes which digest these starches) NG4L Diabetes and Syndrome X contains an extract from the root bark of a rare tree from India named Salacia oblonga. Salacia contains natural alphaglucosidase inhibitor which limits the digestion of starches in the gut. When the starches are not digested, then the sugars never enter the blood stream in the first place, but rather get passed through unchanged. This mechanism is the same as what is found in several oral anti-diabetic drugs such as acarbose (Precose tm). Research has indicated that the natural salacia is approximately 200 times more effective than acarbose.

    There is another compound in NG4L Diabetes and Syndrome X from the medicinal mushroom Grifola frondosa (Maitake) which is also an alphaglucosidase inhibitors. This one helps limit the amount of sugars released from the carbohydrates we eat. Together, these two alphaglucosidase inhibitors significantly reduce the amount of sugar that ever enters the blood stream in the first place. When there is less sugar absorbed from our food, there is less for the body to try and keep under control.

Mechanism of Action # 1: These two alphaglucosidase inhibitors affects blood sugar metabolism by limiting the absorption of dietarily derived glucose in the two hours after eating.
 

The second mechanism comes from the well-known medicinal mushroom Cordyceps sinensis. This mushroom contains compounds which effect blood sugar metabolism in two different ways:
  a) Increases production of the enzyme Hepatic Glucokinase, which is a secondary mechanism by which the body metabolizes blood sugar.
  b) Increases the sensitivity of the insulin receptors on the surface of the cells, so that any insulin present is more effectively utilized.

Mechanism of Action #2: Cordyceps positively affects blood sugar metabolism throughout the day by increasing insulin sensitivity.

  • The third mechanism is from a special extract of Cinnamon, containing a group of bioactive compounds called MHCP (Methyl-Hydroxy-Chalcone-Polymer). We derive this from two types of cinnamon, both Cinnamomum zylanicum (true Cinnamon from Madagascar) and Cinnamomum cassia (called Bastard Cinnamon from India). This mushroom has been shown to reduce excess blood sugar through mechanism which is only partly understood, probably through increased excretion through the kidneys.

    Mechanism of Action #4: Coprinus affects blood sugar metabolism by speeding the excretion of excess sugar not required for energy metabolism.

The fifth way that NG4L Diabetes and Syndrome X affects blood sugar is through the catalytic action of Chromium and Biotin. Both of these are necessary for normal blood sugar metabolism and are even more important in people with type two diabetes. The type of chromium used in NG4L Diabetes and Syndrome X is Chromium Polynicotinate, which is the most absorbable type. Each tablet of NG4L Diabetes and Syndrome X contains 200 umg of elemental chromium, for a total of 800 umg per day. This is the optimum dose for blood sugar control.
