Eliminating is one of the physiological needs of our body and this includes body fluids, gases and feces. In the context of faecal elimination, constipation occurs when the stool, the remnant of digestive assimilation, moves too slowly along the large intestine. These faeces remain in the colon for too long and gradually become hard and dry, making their evacuation difficult, painful and infrequent. Constipation in itself is generally not considered a disease, but rather a symptom, i.e. the clinical manifestation of a pathological disorder; moreover, although it is annoying, it is generally not dangerous.

Constipation is in most cases poorly perceived by many people, even health professionals. In fact, having a bowel movement as little as twice a week is not a problem if you go when you feel the need and it doesn’t impose any difficulties. Infants, on the other hand, can pass stool once every 3 to 4 days to 5 times a day, depending on their diet. In the end, although it is only a symptom, to better define it, it must be considered as a pathology, that is to say, it must be considered as having symptoms itself and, above all, take into account the subject’s history of fecal emission.

As a general rule, constipation in a subject is said to occur when there is a decrease in the frequency of bowel movements, with a change in the consistency of the stool to a more solid state. Other signs to look for are the sensation that the intestines have not been completely emptied, a feeling of abdominal bloating sometimes accompanied by abdominal buzzing, significant flatulence, indigestion, pain, bleeding caused by the effort of expulsion and sometimes loss of appetite.

Healthy people will occasionally become constipated, and a period of constipation may also be triggered by conditions such as a benign tumour or growth, chronic kidney failure, lead poisoning, ingestion of non-digestible objects and certain medications, hypothyroidism, irritable bowel syndrome, neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis or spinal cord injury, cancer of the rectum or colon, or simply through poor eating habits and a tendency to postpone defecation. Above all, it is important to keep in mind that severe constipation sometimes appears suddenly and lasts a few days, quickly putting the prognosis at risk.

NB: If both stool and gas are stopped, it is important to consult a health care professional, as this may be a surgical emergency in some cases.

The treatment of constipation depends primarily on its cause. Apart from cases where its origin is a real medical problem, constipation is most often linked to bad habits. Natural solutions exist to eliminate it and reduce its manifestations. These have the advantage of not making the colon more lazy and, above all, do not risk causing melanosis of the colon, one of the intestinal disorders associated with the frequent use of laxatives. One of the best solutions, therefore, lies in the use of natural plants.

PRESENTATION: box of 20 sachets of 2 grams each, containing a complex of plants < 100% natural, in particular:

Asian water plantain or psyllium: Psyllium is an Asian plant used in traditional medicine, not to be confused with the psyllium found in our latitudes, which has no medicinal virtues. Only the Asian blond psyllium and only the integument of the psyllium seed is active, i.e. its skin or husk. Psyllium is sometimes called Indian plantain or ispaghul. It is the mucilage of the integument that is used for its laxative virtues. Indeed, in the case of constipation, the mucilage of psyllium absorbs water from food. In contact with water, it forms a gel with the soluble fibers, which hydrates the stool and thus improves elimination.

The mucilage in question constitutes up to one third of the composition of the seed coat. The active part contains soluble fibers that have an appetite suppressant effect because they fill the stomach. The soluble fibres found in psyllium are recommended to facilitate transit, but they also have the effect of partially preventing the absorption of cholesterol and “bad fats”.

They are therefore reputed for cardiovascular health even if on this point, it is not unanimous.

Senna: Senna is one of the laxative plants whose effects can be felt fairly quickly. Native to Asia and sub-Saharan Africa, senna contains anthracene derivatives (sennosides A and B). In the colon, the sennosides contained in senna are digested by the bacteria of the intestinal flora and release anthraquinones which accelerate transit in two ways: by inhibiting the absorption of water contained in digested food (the stools then remain soft) and by stimulating the movements of the intestine. However, it seems that the laxative effect of senna is also due to an irritating action on the walls of the intestine, which generally limits its use.

Pinion seeds: Pine nuts are the edible seeds of certain varieties of pine trees. This seed is at the same time a very tasty food and rich in properties beneficial to health. They are particularly rich in protein and fiber. They are a good source of zinc, vitamin B2 and potassium. They also contain calcium, magnesium, vitamin E and iron. As you can see, pine nuts contain most of the essential nutrients required by our body. Like other types of nuts, pine nuts contain many minerals and some essential amino acids. They contribute

to maintain the health of the body, have antioxidant properties and help protect the cardiovascular system. Thanks to its richness in soluble fiber, pine nuts promotes intestinal regularity and helps the body get rid of accumulated toxins. They are thus considered useful in cases of constipation, as they improve intestinal movements. In addition, pine nuts contain oleic acid, which can keep cholesterol levels under control.

Hemp seeds: The husk of hemp seeds is rich in minerals, it is often removed from commercially packed and peeled seeds, however they are still a good source of calcium iron, phosphorus, manganese, magnesium, and zinc. These seeds are also a source of vitamin B, they also contain vitamins A, D, and K. They are gluten free. With a high content of soluble and insoluble fiber, they improve digestion; in this regard, they are used in Asia to treat constipation and hemorrhoids.

Almonds: these highly appreciated berries are particularly rich in fibre and protein. They also contain good fats, more than half of the lipids contained in the almond are monounsaturated fatty acids, especially oleic acid, the same as olive oil. This leads to a decrease in the risk of cardio-vascular diseases: 54% all the same. It is an oleaginous fruit, therefore, normal that it has a lot of fatty acids since these fruits provide oil, such as walnuts, pistachios, cashew nuts, hazelnuts, but also olive, soy, sunflower, etc … So in winter the almond becomes an excellent food.

It is an alkalizing fruit, very nutritious, energetic, remineralizing. This fruit is cholesterol-free, rich in phytosterols and valuable vegetable proteins. It has intestinal antiseptic properties. It opposes all untimely and putrid fermentations.

White tea: White tea is made from immature tea leaves that are plucked shortly before the buds have fully opened. Because its leaves are as close as possible to their natural state, white tea contains more polyphenols than any other type of tea. It is these powerful antioxidants that are responsible for the destruction of carcinogenic cells and are reputed to prevent cancerous diseases, including those of the digestive tract. According to studies conducted at the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University, white tea appears to have more powerful anti-cancer qualities than green tea. In addition, white tea can help your body’s immune system fight dangerous viruses and bacteria that cause infection.
