In these studies, 200 patients were given 200 micrograms of organic selenium or placebo. After 18 months, blood levels of selenium, viral load and T-cell count were analyzed. The researchers found that the addition of daily selenium supplementation suppressed HIV-1 progression, viral load was improved (decreased) and CD4 count increased.
